Class Specifications: Every class offered herein, covered by the rules and regulations of the current BHSA and VHSA Rule Books will be conducted and judged accordingly. The Judges’ decisions are always final.

Stalls: A limited number of stalls are available $35.00 per stall. First Come First Serve. Bedding not included.

Schooling: Will be permitted only in designated area. Schooling will be available from 6:30 am-8:15 am the morning of the show. Note: There will be no schooling the day before the show. Non-Showing horses must pay a $25.00 schooling fee. You must leave a copy of the coggins and an open check with management before schooling. You will be required to wear a number when schooling. All Juniors must have an adult overseeing schooling.

Coggins Test: All exhibitors must present a Negative Coggins Test taken within one year on each animal on the show grounds. This is a Virginia State Law.

Exhibitors: All exhibitors must wear ASTM/SEI certified helmet at all times when mounted on the show grounds with a harness secured. Proper attire and equipment expected.

Awards: Six ribbons per class. Champion and Reserve Champion ribbons in all divisions. Points scored 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, ½.

Dogs: All Dogs must be on leashes while on the show grounds.

Waiver: A signed waiver must be received in the show office before mounted on the show grounds. This complies with the Virginia Equine Liability Act (3.2-6200 thru 3.2-6203 as amended and following the Code of Virginia) which is hereby incorporated by reference. Keswick Hunt Club, Employees, volunteers and property owners are not responsible for accident or injury to spectators, riders, handlers or animals. Entry onto grounds constitutes acknowledgement of this policy.

Show Management: Reserves the right to combine, split or cancel any class or division it deems necessary. Concession Stand will be available on grounds.

From Charlottesville: Travel East on 250 Bypass, East on Rte. 22, right on Rte. 744 at Keswick Club sign.

From Richmond: I-64 West, take the Keswick/Boyd Tavern Exit and turn right on Rte. 616. Travel approximately 2 miles, and turn left on Rte. 22, left on Rte. 744 at Keswick sign.

Division Specifications

BHSA Leadline: Open to riders 7 years and younger as of 12/1/18. To be judged 50% suitability of mount and 50% rider’s equitation. Riders not allowed to cross enter into any class where they would be asked to trot.

Low Hunter Division: Open to horses and ponies. Fences 2’ & 2’6”

Green Hunter Division: Open go horses in their first or second year of showing over fences at 2’6” or higher. Also open to Ponies 14.2 and under in their first year of showing over fences ridden by a junior rider only. Sm. 2’, Med. 2’3”, Large and Horses 2’6”. May split horse/pony if 3 entries of each. May combine with Thoroughbred Hunter or Working Hunter in order to fill.

Open Hunter: Open to horses and ponies. Fences 2’9”

Thoroughbred Hunter: Open to Thoroughbred horses registered with The Jockey Club or eligible to be registered. To Jump 2’6” or 3’.

Working Hunter: Open to all horses and ponies not entered in a pony division. Jumps 2’9”, 3’ & 3’3”

Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter: Open to horses ridden by juniors and Adult Amateurs. Adults my ride ponies if not shown in any pony division. Jumps 2’6” or 3’

Pleasure Horse:  Open to horses ridden by juniors and adults. Judgedon performance and soundness with emphasis on manners and suitability. To be split Adult and Junior Pleasure if entries warrant.

Special Hunter: Open to horses and ponies. Adults may ride ponies. Ponies may not cross enter in any pony division if it is shown by an adult.

Pony Pleasure: Open to ponies 14.2 and under ridden by juniors.Judged on performance and soundness with emphasis on manners and suitability.

Pony Hunter: Open to small ponies not over 12.2 hands to jump 2’, medium ponies over 12.2 but not over 13.2 hands to jump 2’3” and large ponies over but not over 14.2 hands to jump 2’6” ridden by a junior rider. If 4 or more large ponies and 4 or more small/medium ponies compete the division will remain split.

Short Stirrup Hunter: Open to riders 12 & under. To jump 18”. Horses and Riders may only cross enter into Pleasure, Eq on the flat & non VHSA Associate classes.

Short Stirrup Equitation: Riders 12 years and under. May not enter any classes with fences over 18”. May trot or canter over fences. May not cross enter in any other equitation class except Equitation on the flat, and any class with jumps over 18”

Equitation on the Flat: Open to Juniors and Adult Amateurs, to show at the walk, trot  and canter. Judges may do additional tests. To be split Adult Amateurs, Juniors 15-17 and Juniors 14 and under if entries warrant.

Junior, Pony, Adult Amateur Equitation: Junior riders and Adult Amateur riders. Small ponies 2’, Medium ponies 2’3” and Large ponies 2’6” and Horses 2’6” or 3’ over a course of at least 6 fences. At least ¼ may be asked to return to hack. In Pony Equitation for junior riders only.

HUNT NIGHT August Only

Fox Hunter Over Fences: Open to horses and ponies. Will be split under 35 or 35 and older if entries warrant. Fences 2’6”

Fox Hunter Hack: Open to horses and ponies. Walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Top 10 horses to jump 2 fences at 2’6” and will be asked to hand gallop.

Fox Hunter Pairs: Open to horses and/or ponies. To be shown over a course of fences not to exceed 2’6”’. Judged on performance, manners, soundness and uniformity as a pair.

Hunt Teams: Teams will consist of three horses and or ponies. Judged on a brilliant performance at a true hunting pace, soundness, suitability, manners and uniformity of a team. Jumps at 2’6” Last jump to be jumped together.
